Design your own Kimono

For the “Kimono - Kyoto to Catwalk” exhibition at Museum Rietberg Zürich, we gave visitors the opportunity to design their own Kimono in the exhibition and download it via smartphone. A touchscreen invited visitors to choose from various patterns, colors and avatars.

The selected design was then applied to a 3D avatar and revealed in a lifelike animation directly in the exhibition. Afterwards, visitors had the opportunity to receive a picture of the kimono via QR code and email.

Depending on what colors are used in a design, the background changes, as different colors are worn for different seasons.

The touchscreen interaction was designed as a linear, guided process using the museum’s design guide.
